Fiber and wireline techs ask us the same handful of questions every week. Here's what our Gear Experts® tell them.
Build it around the job, not the brand name. Your splicer and cleaver need a hard shell. Strippers, scribe, and snips belong in a dedicated pouch so they aren't rattling around loose. Keep cleaning supplies separated from anything that sheds dust, and give splice sleeves their own pocket. The techs who lose the most time are the ones digging through a single catch-all bag at every access point. Our Gear Experts® build kits around your actual workflow, so every tech opens the same bag and finds the same tool in the same place.

Consumables, every time. Lint-free wipes, 99% IPA, cleaning sticks, splice protection sleeves, and cleaver blades disappear faster than anyone plans for. Nothing kills a splice day quite like reaching for wipes that aren't there. Set your consumables on a standing order through GME Pro and they show up before you're out — no mid-job scramble, no borrowing from the next truck.
Split the load by how often you touch it. Test gear and laptop ride in a padded, weather-resistant backpack you carry to the point of work. Bulk consumables and spares stay in a hard case in the rig. Anything you reach for every ten minutes lives on your belt or in a shoulder pouch. Carry it all in one bag and you'll either leave something behind or move slower all day. We stock work-ready packs, bags, and transit cases built for the jobsite — plus tethering and organization gear that keeps tools where you can reach them.
Underground work has its own gear list, and it's one you don't want to be short on. Crews typically roll with gas detection, forced-air ventilation, a tripod and retrieval system, harnesses, lighting, and traffic control for the site. Your safety program and competent person set the procedure and call the requirements — we make sure the gear is on your truck and ready to work. We can also handle inspection and recertification on your retrieval equipment so your documentation stays current.
Positioning gear and fall protection are two different jobs, and mixing them up is the most common gap we see when we walk a site. A pole strap holds you in position to work. Fall arrest is what catches you. Most aerial techs carry both, along with the right anchorage for what they're tied to. We outfit full crews with harnesses, SRLs, pole straps, and connectors and we standardize gear across your teams so a tech moving between sites is on identical equipment. Our inspection services keep your fall protection documented and on schedule.
