Ergonomics
Tower climbing is no easy job. It take a tenacious and strong-willed individual to go out and climb 100s of feet up metal structures all day. The career of a tower climber can wreak havoc on the body. That’s why helping you in every way we can is a priority here at GME Supply. We offer a full selection of ergonomic supports including wrist wraps, back supports, kneeling pads, knee pads, and elbow sleeves.
Gloves
Your hands are your trade and protecting them is a priority. There are many different situations when doing work in the tower climbing industry that requires gloves specifically made for certain uses. At GME Supply, our Gear Experts® have spent years sourcing the best gloves from around the globe so you can keep your hands safe in any situation. Our gloves include coated gloves, cut-resistant gloves, economy gloves, and trade gloves.
Coated Gloves
Coated gloves have a wide range of uses. Depending on the liner and dip coating these gloves can be used for jobs ranging from industrial manufacturing to chemical resistance.
Cut-Resistant Gloves
When looking at gloves one of the most important things to look at is how effective those gloves are at protecting your hands from sharp and abrasive material. That’s where cut-resistant gloves come in. The telecom industry is no stranger to sharp edges and jagged metal - that’s why our Gear Experts® put together some of our favorite cut resistant gloves. We feature gloves ranging from ANSI A1 to A8 cut resistance and even have gloves that are compatible with your favorite touchscreen device. Economy Gloves
Economy gloves are perfect for when the job doesn’t call for heavier duty gloves, but you still need a protective layer on your hand. These gloves are lighter and thinner, but that doesn’t mean they can’t protect your hands from dirt, dust, grime, and some chemicals.

Trade gloves are designed for the people who get the job done. With many specialized options to choose from, you’ll find the exact trade gloves you need for any application. Whether you need anti-vibration gloves, high impact gloves, climbing gloves, or fingerless gloves - we've got them all. Many of our trade gloves also offer additional benefits that not only keep you safe from harsh environments but also help reduce the effects of mother nature on the job.
Our trade gloves offer many features including water resistance, cut resistance, abrasion resistance, and weather resistance. In the cold of winter having a thermal insulated glove that also features the cut resistance you need to get the job done can be the difference between “another day in paradise” and “the worst day on the job yet”.
Hearing Protection
Job sites have a tendency to be loud - really loud - and tower sites are no different. As a tower climber, you come into contact with a whole slew of loud equipment. Constant exposure to loud noises can completely destroy your hearing and cause a real inconvenience for you later in life. That’s why our Gear Experts® have sourced a wide variety of disposable and reusable earplugs, hearing bands, and earmuffs.
When looking at hearing protection it is important to keep in mind what type of rating it has. In the US the rating structure is based on NRR (Noise Reduction Rating). This will be listed as a number between 0 and 33 where the number represents the maximum decibel level the hearing protection will protect you from.
Helmets
When choosing your helmet for your tower climbing gear setup you should consider a range of factors. The best helmet choices will include helmets that are designed for working in vertical positions that feature a four-point chin strap. Other features to look for are electrical insulation, adjustable inserts, sweatbands, and ear muff slots.
Types of Helmets
There are two types of helmets (type 1 and type 2) classified by ANSI Z89.1-2014 for different levels of protection. Type 1 helmets are designed to only take a blow directly to the top of the head. Type 2 helmets have been designed to reduce the force from lateral impact such as an off-center and/or side impact, in addition to top impacts. These helmets have visible padding on the sides.
Helmet Classes
There are 3 classes (C, E, & G) that specify electrical protection. Class C helmets are considered conductive and do not provide any electrical protection, these are typically vented and only protect workers from an impact. Class E hard hats offer protection from high voltage conductors up to 20,000 volts, and cannot have any vents in the design. Lastly, Class G offers protection from low voltage conductors up to 2,200 volts, they must also be free of holes for ventilation.
Service Life
Helmets are not designed to last forever. Service life begins from the time it is put into service and that date should be properly labeled and documented. The suspension should be replaced annually (after 12 months) and the helmet should be replaced after no more than 5 years. If the helmet sustains an impact, it must be retired immediately even if there is no visible damage.
Inspection
Proper inspection should be taken each time the helmet is worn. Suspension should be installed and worn as the manufacturer intended. Exposure to paint and chemicals may damage the structure of the helmet, therefore steps must be taken to remove paint or chemicals after every use. Pressure sensitive, non-metallic stickers and self-adhesive tape are typically accepted however we strongly recommend you refer to the manufacturers' specifications before applying anything on the surface of the helmet.
Hi-Vis Apparel
There are many low visibility situations when working in the tower industry. Not to mention, mother nature doesn’t make every day sunny. You need to be seen on the job site to stay safe. We have both class 2 and class 3 safety apparel to ensure you have the gear you need to get the job done.
Class 2 items are intended for environments that pose a greater risk than those that require a Class 1 traditional safety yellow or orange material. Class 2 apparel is medium sized because of the ANSI requirements. A class 2 article of clothing must have at least 775 inches of safety yellow or orange material and 201 square inches of reflective striping.
Class 3 items are intended for dangerous environments and are typically larger because of the ANSI requirements. They must have 310 square inches of reflective striping and 1,240 inches of safety yellow or orange material.

We have a wide selection of safety glasses that are ANSI Z87 rated, which is the standard that requires the glasses to go through extensive testing.
