With items like this I am always skeptical but I have cold feet so I decided to try them. I am very happy with the heat output for such a small, lightweight battery. I wish they lasted a little longer so I did purchase another set of batteries. All in all they are working better than expected.
As with any lanyard from DBI Sala and at this price point, build quality and materials are top notch. Why only 2 stars then? The rebar hooks are EXTREMELY difficult to operate. The design is horrible. You can be sure these gates will never open accidentally, because it takes a minor miracle to get them open intentionally. There is a complex system of cams and slides in the gate that does a great job interlocking the gate to the hook.. But makes gate lock release not smooth at all (despite trying to lube it). The lock release is positioned in a way that makes it very awkward to operate. Pressure on the gate causes the gate lock release to lock up, so you basically have to squeeze the lock release without putting any pressure on the gate itself.
This hook worked perfectly for my application. I needed an oversized safe hook for scaling an antenna tower (rookie climber). I used chat to nail down the best item for me and ordered online. I will definitely recommend your company to others. Your website is excellent along with your customer service.
After some confusion due to pictures of different products in the same listing, a quick chat rectified the problem immediately and the incorrect picture was removed. No more confusion!
I bought this model particularly for the unique shape of the rebar hook. I felt having the extra space would do better on the towers I climb. I have yet to climb with it, but I have found the lock mechanism tough to operate. Much harder than my old lanyard. It's quite the complex locking mechanism that locks both at the top and the bottom of the gate. The issue is the lock release is difficult to press unless you have your hand very far down on the hook. If there is ANY pressure on the gate, you aren't going to be able to release it. And the mechanism is not very smooth. Going to try and lube it a little. I am hoping it will smooth out after some use but trying to get the gate open is not something I want to struggle with on a tower.
This harness is not the most comfortable harness I have climbed with. the saddle aluminum plate is not heavy enough to hang in all day. after hanging for 6 hours on and off I had bent the saddle plate in my harness and was pinching me across my hips. I weigh in at 200lbs so i would hate to see what would happen to someone closer to the weight limit of 310lbs would do to the saddle plate.
